Prague Zoo

Prague Zoo is consistently ranked among the top zoos in the world — and for families visiting Prague with children, it's one of the single best days out the city has to offer. Set on a stunning hillside above the Vltava River in the Troja neighborhood, the zoo covers over 55 hectares and is home to more than 5,000 animals representing 700 species.

For kids, the highlights are seemingly endless. The Indonesian Jungle pavilion immerses visitors in a humid tropical environment complete with orangutans and free-flying birds. The African House is a perennial favorite with giraffes, zebras, and other savanna species. The Gorilla Valley gives families an unusually close and intimate view of western lowland gorillas in a naturalistic habitat.

Beyond the animals, the zoo features a cable car offering scenic views across the grounds, a children's tram, playground areas, and multiple dining spots — making it genuinely feasible to spend an entire day without running out of things to do.

Facilities are excellent: stroller-friendly throughout, with nursing and changing rooms, accessible pathways, and food options at multiple locations. Children under three typically enter free, and the family ticket pricing makes this one of the better value full-day experiences in Prague.

Plan for at least four to six hours if you want to see a meaningful portion of the zoo. Arriving early on a weekday morning gives you the best chance of seeing animals at their most active and avoiding the heaviest crowds. Prague Zoo is an absolute must for any family visit to the Czech capital.
