About
Parc Zoologique de Paris, commonly known as Zoo de Vincennes, reopened in 2014 after a complete redesign and now stands as one of the most thoughtfully conceived urban zoos in Europe. The 15-hectare site is organized into five immersive biozones — Patagonia, the Sahel-Saharan region, tropical Europe, the Amazon rainforest, and a Madagascar biozone built on a genuine island — each replicating the landscape, vegetation, and climate of the region it represents as closely as possible. Animals are housed in naturalistic enclosures designed to promote natural behaviors rather than display, which means visitors observe animals doing recognizable things rather than pacing.
The Madagascar biozone is the zoo's standout feature: an island accessible by bridge where ring-tailed lemurs, red-ruffed lemurs, and Aldabra giant tortoises roam with relatively minimal barriers. Children encounter lemurs at close quarters on the pathway that runs through the island. The large central rock formation — a distinctive man-made cliff rising 65 meters above the park — serves as habitat for wild chamois and provides one of the most architecturally dramatic backgrounds of any zoo anywhere.
A dedicated children's farm on the western side of the park gives young children contact with goats, sheep, and rabbits. Feeding demonstrations and keeper talks run throughout the day on a schedule posted at the entrance. The zoo is fully stroller-accessible with paved paths and elevator access between level changes.

Why Kids Love It
Paris's fully renovated major zoo with five immersive biozones — including a Madagascar island and a Sahel-Saharan region — set in the Bois de Vincennes
Pro Tips from Parents
- Start with the Madagascar island immediately after entry — it is the most popular section and can get crowded by mid-morning
- Check the keeper talk schedule at the entrance and plan your route around the two or three most interesting sessions
- The western children's farm is best in the morning when animals are active and keepers have time for questions
What to Bring
- A packed picnic — designated areas allow it and the park food options are limited
- Comfortable walking shoes — the full zoo covers significant ground
- Binoculars for children who want closer views of the large open enclosures
