South London's hidden beach is one of those spots that feels almost unreal — a genuine stretch of sandy foreshore tucked along the south bank of the Thames that appears only at low tide, turning a stretch of river bank into an impromptu seaside escape without leaving the city.

Accessing the beach requires a little planning: you need to time your visit to low tide, and the route down involves steps or a ramp to reach the foreshore. Sturdy footwear is recommended as the ground can be uneven and occasionally muddy at the edges.
