Lumphini Park

Lumphini Park is Bangkok's most beloved public green space — a 142-acre oasis of lawns, trees, and a central lake in the heart of one of the world's most densely built cities. Free to enter and open daily from early morning until late evening, it offers families a genuine respite from the heat, noise, and concrete of Bangkok's urban environment.

For families with children, the park offers a surprising variety of activities and encounters. The central lake accommodates paddle boats for hire, which children universally adore — drifting around the water at a leisurely pace while the Bangkok skyline rises around you is an experience that's both serene and distinctly memorable. The park's resident population of giant monitor lizards — varanids that can reach 2 meters in length — is another source of genuine excitement, particularly for older children with an interest in wildlife.

The park is most pleasant in the early morning when Bangkok families gather for exercise and the temperature is bearable, and again in the late afternoon as the heat eases.
