Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park is a compact but well-designed park on the banks of Vancouver Harbour in the Esplanade area of North Vancouver. It features a playground, picnic tables, walking trails, and waterfront views that combine natural beauty with urban harbor activity.

The playground has modern equipment including climbing structures, slides, and swings suitable for kids from toddler age through about 10. The play surface is rubberized for safety, and the equipment is well-maintained by the City of North Vancouver. The playground's harbor-side location means kids are playing with a backdrop of ocean, mountains, and ship traffic.

The park connects to the Spirit Trail, North Vancouver's waterfront walking and cycling path. Families can extend their visit by walking east along the trail toward Lonsdale Quay Market (about 15 minutes) or west toward the Shipyards district. The path is flat, paved, and stroller-friendly.

Picnic tables and benches are scattered throughout the park, making it a good lunch spot. The grassy areas are flat and suitable for toddlers to run around. Some mature trees provide shade, though on hot days, shade can be limited over the playground itself.

The park is within walking distance of Lonsdale Quay, which adds food options, shops, and the SeaBus terminal to your outing. Taking the SeaBus across to downtown Vancouver and back is a hit with kids — the 12-minute ferry ride offers great harbor views and is covered by regular transit fare.

With a 4.6 Google rating, the park is appreciated as a neighborhood gem that visitors often overlook. It's quieter than the more famous Lonsdale Quay area while offering equally good views. Street parking on the Esplanade is available and usually easy to find.
