About
Sunset Beach Park sits on the English Bay waterfront in Vancouver's West End, connected to the Seawall path between English Bay Beach and the entrance to False Creek. It's a quieter, less crowded alternative to nearby English Bay Beach while offering the same mountain and ocean views.
The beach is a mix of sand and small pebbles with gentle entry into calm water. The swimming area is roped off during summer and supervised by lifeguards. The water is cold (Pacific Ocean standard) but shallow enough for toddlers to wade safely while staying close to shore.
A grassy lawn area above the beach provides space for picnics, lounging, and play. The park connects directly to the Seawall, Vancouver's continuous waterfront walking and cycling path. Kids on bikes, scooters, or rollerblades can ride the Seawall in either direction — west toward English Bay or east toward the Olympic Village and Science World.
Sunset Beach faces north toward the North Shore mountains and Stanley Park, giving it dramatic views. Despite its name, the beach doesn't get a direct sunset view (that goes to English Bay Beach around the corner), but the evening light reflecting off the water and mountains is still beautiful.
The park has public washrooms and some bench seating. There's no playground at Sunset Beach itself, but the English Bay playground is a short Seawall walk west. The Aquatic Centre next door has indoor pools and changing rooms if the ocean water is too cold.
Parking is metered on Beach Avenue and extremely competitive on summer weekends. Transit is a better option — the #6 bus runs along Davie Street, putting you within a 5-minute walk. The park is also walking distance from the Yaletown neighborhood and its restaurants.
