About
Pirate Adventures operates themed boat tours for young children out of the Mast Tower Lane dock on False Creek, right next to Granville Island. The experience is designed specifically for kids aged 3-10 and runs during the summer season, typically June through September.
The tour lasts about 60-75 minutes and follows a scripted pirate adventure. Kids are greeted by costumed pirate characters, given bandanas and face paint, and briefed on their mission to find hidden treasure. The boat heads out on False Creek while the crew leads the children through an interactive story with clues, songs, and challenges.
The highlight for most kids is the water cannon battle — the boat is equipped with water guns that kids can fire at targets along the route. At the end of the adventure, the crew helps kids discover a treasure chest, and each child gets a small bag of loot (usually plastic coins, candy, and small toys).
The boat is a covered pontoon vessel with seating for parents. While kids are the focus, parents can sit back and enjoy the False Creek scenery. The pace is relaxed, and the crew is experienced at managing groups of excited children. Life jackets are provided and required for all passengers.
This works best for the 3-8 age range. Three-year-olds are usually captivated by the costumes and treasure. By age 9-10, most kids are starting to see through the act, so manage expectations for older children. For younger toddlers (under 3), the loud noises and pirate characters can sometimes be overwhelming.
Booking is online through their website. July and August weekends sell out fastest. The departure point at Mast Tower Lane is easy to find — it's on the south side of False Creek near the Granville Island entrance.

Why Kids Love It
Kids dress up in pirate costumes, board a real boat, and go on a treasure hunt across False Creek. They fire water cannons, find a treasure chest, and each kid gets to keep some loot. For the 3-8 age group, it's pure magic.
Pro Tips from Parents
- Book the earliest tour time on busy summer weekends — smaller crowds and less restless kids
- Bring a towel — the water cannon section gets kids (and parents) a bit wet
- Combine with a Granville Island Market visit for a full morning or afternoon
What to Bring
- Sunscreen and hats — the boat has some shade but sun exposure is significant
- A towel for water cannon splashes
- A light jacket — it can be breezy on the water even in summer
