About

Lynn Canyon Park is North Vancouver's free alternative to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, and many locals will tell you it's actually the better experience. The suspension bridge here spans Lynn Creek canyon, and while it's shorter than Capilano's bridge, it still hangs high above a dramatic, forested gorge.

The 617-acre park wraps around the canyon with well-maintained hiking trails of varying difficulty. The easiest loop trail takes about 30 minutes and is doable with school-age kids. Longer trails lead deeper into the forest and connect to other North Shore parks. The Baden Powell Trail passes through here for more ambitious hikers.

In summer, the park's swimming holes are a major draw. The 30 Foot Pool and Twin Falls are popular spots where locals cool off on hot days. The water is cold — this is snowmelt-fed creek water — but kids don't seem to mind. Parents should supervise carefully at swimming areas, as the rocks can be slippery and the current varies.

The Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre near the parking lot has small natural history exhibits and educational programs. There's a nominal fee to enter, but it's worth a quick visit with curious kids. The cafe in the Ecology Centre building serves basic coffee and snacks.

The bridge itself is not stroller-friendly — it's a narrow suspension bridge with mesh sides. You'll want to carry young children or use a baby carrier. The main trails near the bridge are well-groomed but hilly, so jogging strollers with good wheels are recommended if you need a stroller elsewhere in the park.

Parking fills up fast on summer weekends. Arrive before 10 AM or consider taking transit — the park is accessible by bus from Lonsdale Quay. There are washrooms at the Ecology Centre but no changing stations, so come prepared.
