Grasshopper Point Swimming & Picnic Area

Grasshopper Point is widely considered one of the finest natural swimming holes in Arizona, and it earns that reputation every summer with the kind of memories that become family vacation lore. Located along Oak Creek on AZ-89A between Sedona and Slide Rock State Park, Grasshopper Point features a deep natural pool carved from red sandstone, shaded by towering Arizona sycamore and cottonwood trees, with the red and orange canyon walls rising dramatically on both sides.

The water in Oak Creek stays remarkably cool even on the hottest summer days, fed by springs and upstream flow from the mountain forests of Oak Creek Canyon. Temperatures typically hover in the 65-70°F range — refreshing rather than shocking, and perfect for extended swimming sessions. A popular cliff jumping spot — modest height, safe when water levels are adequate — brings teens back repeatedly and is an authentic Sedona experience.

A Red Rock Pass is required for parking ($5/day or $20 annual). The parking lot fills completely by 10am on summer weekends, so early arrival is not optional — it's essential. Pack a full picnic, as there are no food vendors on site. Water shoes are strongly recommended as the submerged and bank rocks are slippery.
