East Fairmount Park

East Fairmount Park is part of Philadelphia's vast Fairmount Park system — one of the largest urban park networks in the United States. Stretching along the east bank of the Schuylkill River, East Fairmount Park offers families miles of trails, open meadows, historic mansion estates, and direct river access in a surprisingly wild urban setting.

For families, the park functions as an enormous backyard. Stroller-friendly paved paths wind along the river, while dirt trails offer more adventurous options for older kids and tweens. The Schuylkill River Trail runs through the park and connects to a broader regional trail network, making it ideal for family bike rides or longer hikes.

Several of the park's historic mansions — including Lemon Hill and Strawberry Mansion — are open for tours or visible from walking paths, adding a layer of history to a nature outing. Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse, a historic and well-loved children's playground, is also located within the park boundaries.
