Happy Trails Horseback Riding

Happy Trails Stables offers one of Nassau's most unique and memorable family experiences — horseback riding through tropical trails to pristine, undeveloped beaches that most tourists never see. Operating continuously since 1977, they're the only trail-riding facility in Nassau and one of the longest-running in the Bahamas.

The experience begins with a complimentary bus pickup from your hotel, transporting you about 25 minutes to the stables in Coral Harbour on New Providence's south coast. At the stables, guides assess riding ability and provide basic instruction for beginners — no prior experience is needed. The horses are well-trained, calm, and accustomed to new riders.

The 1. 5-hour ride follows trails through native bush vegetation, past the natural saltwater lake at Corrie Sound, and alongside the quiet community of Adelaide village. The landscape here is completely different from tourist Nassau — raw, natural, and beautiful.

The trail emerges onto the beaches of Coral Harbour, where the horses wade into the shallow turquoise water while riders soak in views that stretch uninterrupted to the horizon.

For experienced riders, guides may allow cantering on the beach — an exhilarating experience against the backdrop of crystal-clear Caribbean water. First-timers are kept at a walk and trot, which is still magical on a beach this beautiful.

The minimum age is 12, so this is specifically a tween/teen/adult activity. It's perfect for families where the kids have outgrown children's programs and want something that feels genuinely adventurous. Teens who are normally hard to impress consistently rate this as a trip highlight.

At $175 per person including hotel transfers, it's not cheap, but the experience is unique and the small group sizes (typically 6-8 riders) ensure personal attention. Rides run six mornings a week (closed Sundays), and booking 2-3 days in advance is recommended. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes — both are required for safety.
