About

If your family's idea of a perfect day involves flying through the jungle canopy, driving amphibious vehicles through flooded caves, and paddling underground rivers lit by stalactites, Xplor Park is your destination. This adventure park near Playa del Carmen packs more thrills per hour than any other attraction in the Riviera Maya.

The park centers on four main activities, and you can repeat any of them as many times as you want during your visit. The zip line circuit features 14 lines across two routes, including the highest in the Riviera Maya. Kids as young as 5 can ride (with height requirements met), and the landing systems are automatic — no braking skill needed.

Several lines dip you just above the jungle canopy or drop you toward underground cenote pools.

The amphibious vehicles — real jungle jeeps — follow a route through dense vegetation, across mud tracks, and into partially flooded caves. Kids can't drive (minimum age 18 for drivers), but they absolutely love being passengers on this bumpy, splashy ride.

The underground river experience is something you won't find anywhere else. Using special hand paddles, your family navigates through limestone caves filled with stalactites and stalagmites, with soft lighting creating an otherworldly atmosphere. The water is warm and waist-to-chest deep.

The 5-in-1 waterslide puts your family on a four-person raft and sends you through four different types of descent — curves, drops, and tunnels — before launching into a giant wave pool. It's a screaming, laughing finale that families ride over and over.

Xplor includes a buffet lunch and unlimited snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, so there's no need to bring food or worry about extra spending. The park has clean facilities, changing rooms, and lockers.

Note that Xplor has a minimum age of 5 and height requirements for the zip lines. It's not suited for toddlers or infants. For families with older kids and teenagers who crave adventure, it's arguably the best day you can have in the Riviera Maya.

Plan Your Visit

Best Time to Visit

Arrive at 9 AM opening. Start with the zip lines before the lines build up, then move to the amphibious vehicles and underground rivers. The park also offers Xplor Fuego (5:30-11 PM) for a nighttime version with torches — best for teens.

Nearby Food

Buffet lunch is included with admission — the restaurant offers Mexican and international options. Snack stations throughout the park have fruit, sandwiches, and drinks. Playa del Carmen's 5th Avenue restaurant strip is just a few minutes north if you want dinner after.

Why Kids Love It

Xplor is pure adrenaline wrapped in a jungle setting, and kids who are old enough to participate (5+) absolutely flip for it. The zip line circuits are the tallest in the Riviera Maya — two different routes with seven zip lines each, soaring over the jungle canopy and plunging into cenote waters. Kids ride tandem with a parent on the amphibious vehicles, crashing through mud puddles and flooded caves like a real-life video game.

The underground river paddle is magical — kids use special hand paddles to navigate through stalactite-filled caves lit by eerie blue light. And the grand finale is a 5-in-1 waterslide on a four-person raft that ends in a massive wave pool. It's the kind of day where kids fall asleep in the car on the way home with huge grins on their faces.

Pro Tips from Parents

  • Kids must be at least 5 years old and over 40 inches tall for zip lines — measure before you go to avoid disappointment
  • Do the zip lines first while energy is high and lines are short
  • Wear closed-toe water shoes — you'll need them for the amphibious vehicles and cave swimming
  • Bring a GoPro; the underwater caves are incredibly photogenic
  • Consider Xplor Fuego (evening version) for teens — same activities but lit by torches and stars

What to Bring

  • Closed-toe water shoes (mandatory for some activities)
  • Biodegradable sunscreen
  • Waterproof camera or GoPro
  • Swimsuit worn under comfortable clothes
  • Hair tie for long hair (required for zip lines)
