About
Parque Ecologico Kabah is a small urban ecological park in downtown Cancun, preserving a patch of native jungle and its resident wildlife within the city. It features walking trails through natural forest, a playground, running paths, and a surprising amount of wildlife for a park surrounded by urban development.
The park's main appeal for families is the wildlife. Coatis (white-nosed coatimundis, which look like long-snouted raccoons) roam freely through the park and are the star attraction for kids. These animals are accustomed to visitors and often approach paths, giving kids close-up views without needing binoculars.
Iguanas bask on rocks and tree branches throughout the park, and various bird species — including parrots and toucans — can be spotted in the canopy.
The playground area has climbing structures, swings, and open grassy spaces for running. It's shaded by jungle trees, which keeps it cooler than exposed playgrounds. For toddlers and little kids, the combination of playground time and animal spotting provides a solid morning of entertainment.
Walking trails loop through the forested sections. The paths are mostly flat but can be muddy after rain. The full loop takes about 30-40 minutes at a leisurely pace. Running/jogging paths around the perimeter attract local exercisers in the early morning.
The park is free to enter and located on Avenida Kabah at the intersection with Avenida Nichupte, in the Supermanzana 53 area of downtown Cancun. It's about 15 minutes from the Hotel Zone by taxi.
Facilities are basic — there are some benches and trash cans but no food vendors, minimal restroom facilities, and limited lighting. Visit during daylight hours. The park can feel isolated on very quiet weekdays, so visiting during morning hours when other families and joggers are present is most comfortable.
Important: do not feed the coatis or any wildlife. They're wild animals despite their comfortable proximity to humans. Signs in the park reinforce this rule. Keep snacks sealed and stored, as coatis are opportunistic and will investigate unattended food.
This is a genuine local park, not a tourist attraction. Don't expect polished infrastructure. But for a free morning of wildlife encounters and playground time, it delivers a uniquely Cancun experience that most tourists miss entirely.

Why Kids Love It
Coatis (raccoon-like animals) wander the paths and kids can watch them up close. The playground has climbing structures surrounded by actual jungle. Spotting iguanas, birds, and occasional spider monkeys makes it feel like a mini wildlife safari in the middle of the city.
