About

The Glazer Children's Museum occupies a modern building on Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa, offering 53,000 square feet of interactive exhibits designed specifically for children ages 1-9. It is the Tampa Bay area's premier rainy day destination for young families.

The museum's exhibits are organized around Tampa Bay's identity. Water's Journey traces the path of water from rain through aquifer, river, and bay, with hands-on water play stations where kids build dams, channel flows, and operate locks. Kids get wet -- bring a change of clothes.

KidCity is a miniature town where children roleplay in a grocery store, veterinary clinic, fire station, and construction site, developing social skills through imaginative play.

Engineering Works challenges kids to build structures, experiment with magnetic construction, and solve architectural puzzles. The Art Studio provides open-ended creative supplies for painting, sculpture, and mixed media. The Backyard is an outdoor extension with sand tables, water play, and nature exploration.

For the youngest visitors, the Early Learner zone (ages 0-3) has soft play structures, sensory stations, and activities scaled for toddlers.

The museum's location in the heart of downtown Tampa amplifies its value. Curtis Hixon Park is directly outside -- a large green space where kids can run after museum time. The Tampa Riverwalk passes along the park's edge, connecting to the Florida Aquarium (1 mile south), Armature Works (1 mile north), and multiple restaurants. The Tampa Museum of Art is next door.

Practically, the museum works best for ages 1-9. Children ages 10+ will find most exhibits too young. Strollers are welcome throughout. The building is fully air-conditioned and accessible. There is no food service inside the museum -- eat before or after at one of the nearby Riverwalk restaurants.

Tickets can be purchased online for guaranteed entry (the museum uses timed entry when at capacity). Weekday mornings during the school year are the ideal time -- thin crowds mean more interaction with every exhibit. Weekend mornings are busiest, especially during birthday party hours.

Plan Your Visit

Best Time to Visit

Weekday mornings when school is in session -- the museum is uncrowded and your kids have the exhibits to themselves. Sunday afternoons (opens at 1 PM) are a good alternative. Summer and holiday weeks are busiest. Avoid Saturday mornings during birthday party season.

Wait Times

No waits for most exhibits. Water play area may have a brief wait on busy days. The museum uses timed entry when at capacity -- buy tickets online to guarantee entry.

Nearby Food

No food inside the museum. Nearby: Ulele (Florida-inspired, Riverwalk, 10 min walk), Sparkman Wharf (food hall, 15 min walk), Oxford Exchange (brunch, coffee, books, 10 min drive). Curtis Hixon Park food trucks on weekends.

Why Kids Love It

The Glazer Children's Museum is designed entirely for kids under 10, and it shows. Every exhibit is built to be touched, climbed, manipulated, and explored. The Water's Journey exhibit lets kids build dams, channel water flows, and operate locks and pumps -- they get wet and love it.

KidCity is a miniature town where kids play roles in a grocery store, veterinary clinic, fire station, and construction site.

The Engineering Works area has building challenges with real tools, magnetic blocks, and architectural experiments. The Art Studio provides supplies for open-ended creative projects. The Backyard is an outdoor play space with sand and water tables. For toddlers (ages 1-3), a dedicated early learner zone has soft play, sensory stations, and age-appropriate activities.

The museum's downtown location on Curtis Hixon Park adds value. After the museum, kids can run in the park, walk the Riverwalk, or play in the park's splash pad (seasonal). The Tampa Museum of Art is next door. The combination makes downtown Tampa a surprisingly strong family destination.
