About
Castles N' Coasters is the Phoenix metro area's only real amusement park, offering roller coasters, water rides, go-karts, bumper boats, mini golf, and a large arcade in a compact, castle-themed setting. It is not Six Flags or Disneyland -- it is a regional park with about a dozen rides -- but for families living in or visiting the Phoenix-Scottsdale area, it fills the amusement park niche nicely and delivers solid fun, especially for the 5-16 age range.
The ride lineup includes two notable roller coasters. The Desert Storm is the headliner -- a steel looping coaster with two inversions that delivers genuine thrills for older kids and teens. Riders must be at least 48 inches tall.
The Patriot is a smaller family coaster suitable for younger riders (42-inch minimum). Beyond coasters, the park has a log flume water ride, a Ferris wheel, bumper boats with mounted water guns, spinning teacups, a pendulum ride, and go-kart tracks.
The bumper boats are a standout, especially in Arizona's heat. Each boat has a squirt gun that riders use to drench each other and bystanders. On a 100-degree day, this is not just fun -- it is salvation. The log flume delivers a refreshing splash on the final drop. For families visiting in summer, timing the water rides for midday provides critical cooling.
Mini golf is arguably the park's best offering for mixed-age families. Two 18-hole castle-themed courses feature waterfalls, moats, drawbridges, a dragon, and medieval castle facades. The courses are well-maintained and genuinely fun for all ages, from 5-year-olds to adults. At $12 per person, mini golf alone makes a good standalone outing if you do not want to commit to ride passes.
The arcade is large and air-conditioned, housing classic games, redemption games, and newer titles. It operates on a token or card system. For families escaping the heat, the arcade provides a climate-controlled fallback with 30-60 minutes of entertainment.
Pricing at Castles N' Coasters works two ways: an all-day ride wristband ($30-40/person depending on season and promotions) or individual ride tickets. The wristband makes sense if kids are tall enough for most rides and will ride 8+ times. For families with smaller children who may only qualify for 3-4 rides, individual tickets ($1-5 per ride) are the better value.
Mini golf, go-karts, and the arcade are separate charges regardless of which option you choose.
The park is not large -- you can walk the entire property in 10 minutes. This is actually an advantage for families with young kids: it is manageable, not overwhelming, and parents can see most of the park from any vantage point. It lacks the sprawling scale and production value of major theme parks, but it also lacks their crowds, prices, and exhaustion factor.
Practical notes: the park has a food court with standard amusement park fare (pizza, burgers, chicken tenders, funnel cakes, $8-15). Outside food is not allowed. Parking is free.
The park is located near the former Metrocenter mall in north Phoenix, about 20 minutes from downtown Scottsdale. Hours and operating schedules vary by season -- check the website before going, as the park sometimes has limited hours on weekdays during the school year.

Why Kids Love It
The Desert Storm roller coaster is a legitimate thrill ride with loops and corkscrews that big kids and teens rave about. Bumper boats with squirt guns let kids soak each other on hot days. The two mini golf courses are castle-themed with waterfalls, drawbridges, and a dragon.
