About

Domino Park opened in 2018 on the site of the old Domino Sugar refinery in Williamsburg, and it immediately became one of the most popular parks in Brooklyn. The six-acre waterfront park stretches along the East River with unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline, the Williamsburg Bridge, and the Brooklyn Bridge in the distance.

The playground is the star for families. Unlike generic rubber-and-metal playgrounds, Domino Park integrates actual industrial artifacts from the sugar refinery into the play structures. Kids climb on repurposed gears, pipes, and crane components.

It's visually striking and gives the playground a distinctive character. Water features run in summer, and the rubberized ground surface means scrapes and falls are less traumatic.

Beyond the playground, the park has a long elevated walkway that's perfect for toddler races, terraced seating overlooking the river, a dog run (separated from the playground area), and seasonal activities including beach volleyball and movie screenings. The Tacocina taco stand, operated by Danny Meyer's group, serves solid tacos and elote at reasonable prices.

The Williamsburg location makes this an easy trip from anywhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan. The L train to Bedford Ave is a 5-minute walk to the park. Street parking is extremely difficult on weekends. The neighborhood around the park is packed with restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques if you want to extend the outing.

Why Kids Love It

Domino Park sits on the Williamsburg waterfront on the site of the old Domino Sugar refinery, and it's the coolest park in Brooklyn right now. The playground is designed with industrial artifacts from the refinery integrated into the play structures — massive gears, crane parts, and sugar processing equipment turned into climbing structures. It's playground design that doesn't look like every other playground.

The park hugs the East River with unobstructed Manhattan skyline views. There's a long elevated walkway that kids treat as a racetrack, terraced seating that works for picnics, and in summer, a small beach volleyball area. The playground itself has water features (seasonal), climbing structures, and a rubberized ground surface.

The Williamsburg neighborhood around the park is stroller-central — this is one of the most family-dense neighborhoods in Brooklyn now. The taco stand (Tacocina, by the Danny Meyer restaurant group) in the park is solid and affordable by Williamsburg standards. On weekends, the vibe is relaxed Brooklyn parents, dogs, and kids in a genuinely beautiful waterfront setting.

Pro Tips from Parents

  • The elevated walkway is perfect for toddlers who just want to run — it's long, straight, and fenced
  • Tacocina (the in-park taco stand) has a short menu but everything is good — the elote is worth the trip alone
  • Summer weekday evenings have the best vibes: golden light, thinning crowds, and the skyline lights up
  • The industrial artifacts are labeled — older kids interested in history enjoy learning what each piece did in the refinery
  • Parking is nightmare-level in Williamsburg; take the L train to Bedford Ave and walk 5 minutes
