WonderWorks Myrtle Beach is an interactive science attraction housed in the impossible-to-miss upside-down building at Broadway at the Beach. The building's inverted facade — a grand mansion appearing to have been flipped on its head by a tornado — sets the tone for what is inside: over 100 hands-on exhibits spread across six themed zones that challenge kids to touch, test, build, and experience scientific principles through genuinely fun activities.

The exhibits span a wide range of topics organized into thematic zones. The Extreme Weather Zone lets kids stand in a hurricane simulation booth with winds reaching 74 mph, experience an earthquake simulator, and learn about natural disasters through interactive displays. The Physical Challenge Zone features a bed of 3,500 nails that kids can lie on (safely demonstrating pressure distribution), a giant bubble station, and a pulley system where children can lift themselves off the ground.

The Space Discovery Zone includes a Mercury astronaut capsule replica, a zero-gravity simulator, and exhibits on the solar system.

The Light and Sound Zone appeals to creative kids with giant floor pianos, laser harp instruments, and light-based exhibits that demonstrate color theory and optics. The Imagination Lab puts engineering front and center with bridge-building challenges, earthquake-resistant structure contests, and computer design stations. For thrill-seeking families, the indoor ropes course and laser tag arena elevate WonderWorks beyond a typical museum experience. The ropes course is suspended 36 feet above the ground floor, winding through a multi-level obstacle course with rope bridges, balance beams, and climbing elements. Kids wearing full safety harnesses navigate the course at their own pace while parents watch from below or participate themselves.

The laser tag arena offers multi-level tactical gameplay in a neon-lit arena that tweens and teens rate as one of the best indoor activities in Myrtle Beach.

WonderWorks is one of the premier rainy-day attractions in the Myrtle Beach area, and experienced local families keep it in their back pocket specifically for weather disruptions. The entirely indoor, air-conditioned environment means you will be comfortable regardless of outside conditions. However, this also means the attraction is most crowded on rainy days when beach plans get canceled.

If possible, visit on a sunny weekday when most tourists are on the sand.

The attraction works best for children ages 5-14. Kids under 5 can participate in some exhibits but will miss out on the ropes course (height requirement) and may find some interactive stations too complex. Children over 14 may find some exhibits juvenile, though the ropes course and laser tag keep teens engaged.

The sweet spot is the 7-12 age range, where every exhibit feels appropriately challenging and fun.

Practically, the space is not ideal for strollers due to multiple levels connected by staircases and tight turns between exhibit stations. Elevators are available for accessibility. The attraction does not have a restaurant, but its location within Broadway at the Beach means dozens of dining options are within a 5-minute walk.
