About
Wynwood Walls and the surrounding Wynwood Arts District comprise the largest concentration of street art in the world. What was once a neglected warehouse district has been transformed into an open-air museum where the walls of every building serve as canvases for internationally acclaimed street artists.
The Wynwood Walls proper is an enclosed courtyard featuring curated murals by invited artists -- names like Shepard Fairey, Retna, and Os Gemeos have contributed works. Admission is $12 per person (under 6 free). But the real magic extends well beyond the courtyard walls. The surrounding neighborhood has hundreds of murals covering entire building facades, and exploring them is completely free.
For families, Wynwood succeeds because it removes every barrier that makes traditional art museums challenging with kids. The art is outdoors, so there's no shushing. It's large-scale and colorful, so it holds attention naturally. Kids can run between murals, get up close, and interact with the art through photos. There's no prescribed path -- you wander and discover at your own pace.
The neighborhood has evolved into a full family destination with restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and shops lining the streets. Coyo Taco serves excellent tacos in a mural-covered courtyard. Salty Donut makes artisan doughnuts that kids devour. Zak the Baker has pastries and sandwiches. The food scene means you can combine art exploration with a meal and make a half-day of it.
Wynwood is ever-changing. Murals are painted over and replaced regularly, so repeat visits always reveal new work. Art Basel Miami Beach (early December) brings a surge of new installations and events to the neighborhood, though crowds are intense during that week.
For a first visit, a weekday morning provides the best combination of comfortable temperatures, thin crowds, and good light for photos.

Best Time to Visit
October through April for comfortable outdoor weather. Weekday mornings are least crowded. The walls change periodically as new artists are commissioned, so every visit is different. Art Basel week (early December) brings new installations but massive crowds.
Wait Times
No waits for outdoor murals. The enclosed Wynwood Walls courtyard may have a short entry line on weekends ($12 admission). The surrounding neighborhood murals are always free and accessible.
Nearby Food
Wynwood is packed with restaurants. Coyo Taco (tacos, casual, 1 min), Zak the Baker (bakery/cafe, 3 min), Salty Donut (artisan doughnuts, 2 min), KYU (Asian BBQ, family-friendly, 3 min), Joey's Italian Cafe (pizza, pasta, 5 min). Multiple ice cream and acai bowl shops.
Why Kids Love It
The colors are overwhelming in the best way. Entire buildings covered in murals -- some two or three stories tall -- transform a warehouse district into the world's largest open-air art gallery. Kids see giant animals, surreal faces, abstract explosions of color, and optical illusions that make them stop and stare.
Many of the murals are interactive in the sense that kids can pose with them for creative photos.
Unlike a traditional museum where kids are told not to touch, Wynwood is outdoor and free-roaming. Kids can run between murals, get close to examine details, and engage with art on their own terms. Teens and tweens especially love the Instagram-worthy photo opportunities -- the murals make every shot look professional.
The surrounding neighborhood adds to the experience. Food trucks, ice cream shops, and casual restaurants dot the streets. The energy is creative and youthful. Walking through Wynwood feels like being inside a living art exhibit that keeps changing.
