Alpine Slide at Snow King Mountain

The Alpine Slide at Snow King Mountain is old-school summer fun done right: ride a chairlift to the top, hop on a wheeled sled, and hurtle down a concrete track that winds through the trees back to the base. It's the kind of activity that looks slightly terrifying to cautious parents and completely irresistible to kids, and the beauty of the hand-brake system is that riders can find their own comfort level between 'slow and scenic' and 'full speed ahead.'

The slide at Snow King follows the classic alpine slide format: individual sleds with a simple joystick-style hand brake run on a fixed concrete and fiberglass trough. You can't go off track, which is reassuring, but you can go meaningfully fast in the straightaways. Most kids find the first run exciting and spend the second and third runs pushing their speed limits.

The chairlift ride up is a nice bonus — it's a slower, gentler version of the gondola experience, and you get good views of downtown Jackson and the surrounding valley while traveling up. Riders then walk over to the slide launch and set off one at a time (or in pairs for adult-child combos).

Practical notes: closed-toe shoes are required and strictly enforced. Long pants are a good idea since the track surface can cause minor scrapes if kids let their hands hang out. Young children who don't meet the solo weight minimum will need to ride with an adult — Snow King staff will advise on current requirements. The slide operates in dry conditions and typically closes during rain.
