About
Dogwood Canyon Nature Park is a 10,000-acre privately owned nature preserve about 25 minutes south of Branson that represents the Ozark Mountains at their most pristine. Owned by Johnny Morris (founder of Bass Pro Shops), the park benefits from extraordinary investment in trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and visitor facilities while maintaining a genuine wilderness atmosphere.
The park's 6. 5-mile paved walking trail follows a canyon creek through the heart of the preserve. Waterfalls cascade from canyon walls at multiple points.
The creek runs crystal-clear over rock beds. Moss and ferns cover the canyon walls. Natural springs bubble from the hillside.
The trail is paved and relatively flat, making it accessible to families with young children (strollers work on most sections), while the length provides a genuine hiking experience for older kids.
The tram tour covers more of the property than the walking trail can access, traveling through meadows where bison and elk herds roam, crossing into Arkansas, and passing through a Civil War-era cave. The narrated tour provides natural history and cultural context. It is more expensive than walking but covers ground and wildlife that foot traffic cannot reach.
Trout fishing in the canyon's streams is a catch-and-keep experience ($55/person, gear included). The streams are stocked with rainbow trout and the clear water makes fish visible. After catching your limit, park staff clean, fillet, and ice-pack your trout for you to take home. For families who enjoy fishing, this is one of the best trout fishing experiences in the Ozarks.
Horseback riding on canyon trails provides yet another way to experience the landscape. Guided rides of 1-2 hours follow trails through the forest and along the creek.
The Trout House Restaurant on-site serves catch-of-the-day trout, Ozark comfort food, and BBQ in a setting overlooking the canyon. The food quality reflects the overall investment in the park.
Dogwood Canyon is a step above typical Branson attractions in terms of natural beauty and tranquility. It provides a counterpoint to the entertainment-heavy strip, offering genuine wilderness immersion just minutes away.

Why Kids Love It
Waterfalls around every bend -- the canyon has cascading falls, crystal-clear streams, and moss-covered rock walls that look like a fairy tale. The tram tour crosses into Arkansas and passes through a Civil War-era cave and over bridges spanning the canyon. Trout fishing in the pristine streams is catch-and-keep (they clean and pack your fish).
Bison and elk herds are visible from the tram. The canyon feels wild and untouched despite being a managed park.
